Discrete Element Modelling of Soil Compaction of a Press-Wheel

Press-wheels are wheels designed to compact the soil above seeds in “seed cover” region. Soil compaction, produced by press-wheels of seeders, affects seedling emergence and early plant growth. The Discrete Element Method (DEM) was used model amount compaction from a press-wheel with varying down forces. predict sinkage rolling resistance press-wheel. results were validated data bin tests sandy loam under moisture content levels (low, medium, high). 27.7, 26.7, 25.2 mm for low, high levels, respectively. corresponding resistances obtained 104.4, 89.9, 113.6 N. adequately predicted each level overall Relative Mean Errors (RME) ranging 13 23%. Additional simulation show that average peak stresses across three contents at depth 0.12 m 22,466.7, 8700.0, 6900.0 Pa vertical, horizontal, lateral directions, enhance understanding dynamics soil–press-wheel interaction provided useful information seeder design.
